Common Household Items that Remove Cockroaches

If you have a roach problem, then you know that these bugs can be a real nuisance. The good news is that you can use household items that kill roaches to eliminate these creepy bugs. Most of these household items are non-toxic to pets and humans; however you may need to take safety precautions by donning gloves or masks when mixing some of the products. The best part of using common household items to get rid of cockroaches is that they are cheap and easy to make.

Boric acid

Boric acid is one of the most effective home remedies for dealing successfully with roaches. You can use boric acid in its powder form or make it into a spray. If you opt to use boric acid in its powder form, all you need to do is to sprinkle the acid powder where you suspect that these bugs are hiding such as under cupboards, behind wall panels and near mop boards.

To make boric acid spray, you need to mix boric acid powder with boiling water and stir the solution until all the powder has been dissolved. Next pour the concoction into a plastic spray bottle and spray the solution anywhere you think the bugs are hiding.

Sugar and baking soda

A concoction comprising of baking soda and sugar is one of the household items that kill roaches. Mix the two together and put into a shallow dish. Next, place the dish where the roaches are likely to eat the sweet meal. Powdered sugar is meant to attract the roaches while the baking soda kills the roaches by bloating.

Pepper, onion and garlic solution

To make this solution, add one garlic clove, one cayenne pepper and onion paste to a mug of water. Marinade the concoction for about one hour and add a tablespoon of liquid soap to the solution. To eliminate roaches, apply the solution to all the places where roaches tend to hide.

Petroleum jelly trap

Petroleum jelly is among the household items that kill roaches. To make this trap, simply apply the jelly in the inner rim of the jar. Next, put some peelings of fruits which have a strong fragrance such as mangoes or bananas in the jar and place the jar where roaches tend to hide. The sweet fragrance from fruit peels will draw the roaches into the jar where they will be trapped by the jelly.
